One of Liberia best and international disc jockeys, Bernard Benson screen name DJ Blue has disclosed that President George Weah is the motivation behind his senatorial bid to fill the vacant Montserrado County seat at the Liberia Senate.
As Residents of Bong, and Monserrado Counties are expected to have by-elections respectively following the inauguration of two former senators (George Weah and Jewel Howard-Taylor) as President and Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, many citizens have begun expressing their interests in those vacant positions created by the election of President Weah and Vice President Jewel Howard -Taylor.
Bernard Benson who outlined his major focus and priorities in youth's empowerment, sports development and entertainment, joined the fray describing the lifestyle of former soccer legend now president, Ambassador George Weah as the source of his (Benson) motivation to enter into politics.
Speaking with a group of journalists at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville recently, Benson said his decision to contest in the pending by-election in Montserrado County is triggered by a 'popular' mandate given him through petitions by residents of the county.
Quarrelling that there are too many challenges confronting the populace, DJ Blue uttered that he comes to the race not as a politician but rather a celebrity with passion and desire to serve his people in fostering growth and development through proper legislation and representation.
“I have being an individual, been using my personal possessions in building a sector of the country that the whole country support to be building. I need the mandate of the people; this is why I am going in that direction.” The Boss of Hott FM and TV noted.
Lamenting that there is a need for all sectors of the country to be represented in leadership specifically at the national legislature, he revealed his dream to transform the entertainment industry through creativity and youth empowerment.
“For the past two decades, there haven't being any legislation passed to improve the creative industry of our country. The young people have being forgotten, they are left behind” he cried put.
DJ Blue is also recommending what he called a 'progressive democracy' in Liberia and Africa at large by infusing people from the creative industry into parliament saying, “We can't only put politician into parliament.”

Early life
Born and raised in Brewerville, near the Liberian capital Monrovia, Benson attended the Lott Carey Mission High School in Liberia up to 11th grade. He emigrated to the US in 1988, where he completed his high schooling at Norcross High School in the state of Georgia. Blue later completed a two-year course at Ferris State University in Michigan in the field of HVAC, and continued his studies at Georgia Southwestern State University.
Career
DJ Blue started his career as a hobby in the early 1990s, but later began playing at night clubs and events across the US and the Caribbean.
DJ Blue and a few friends organized the Monrovia Classic Festival in Atlanta, Georgia between 2001 and 2003.
DJ Blue, with his cousin Cypha D'King and friend Hazem Harb, formed BlueLinks Records in Monrovia, and signed afro pop music artist F.A to the label in 2009. The trio also started the BlueLinks show on Magic FM, sponsored by Lonestar Cell and MTN Group. After five months, the program moved to Truth FM and later to state radio ELBC. DJ Blue and his partners opened their own radio station, Hott FM 107.9, in 2010, with community branches in Ganta and Gbarnga, the towns' first radio stations. Hott FM employs over 100 Liberians.

BlueLinks Records and UNICEF Liberia worked to record and produce a song and video about ridding Liberia of the Ebola virus. The track "Ebola is real" aimed to educate people about the dos and don'ts of the deadly virus and featured Liberian music artists DenG, FA and the group Soul Fresh. The single received national airplay.
Hott FM and DJ Blue have sponsored food programs in the slums of Liberia, the construction of a modern public latrine in Liberia for the Kpallah community in Brewerville that serves over 8000 Liberians, the JW Pearson Jr & Sr High School, and an eight-stalls modern latrine project in Ganta that will serve over 5000 students.
International musicians and groups interviewed on Hott FM by DJ Blue include Akon, Sarkodie, Timaya, Wizkid, Sisqo, Ice Prince, J Martins, R2Bees, and Chidinma. On March 15, 2016, he hosted the Desire Concert, which was covered by MTV Base, and featured Chidinma and BlueLinks recording artist F.A that was attended by over 30000 fans.
